EVERYDAY ASTROLOGY

Astrology has this mystical property to it, look to the stars and constellations with planetary orbits and alignments can tell you things about how your month will be involving love, professional development, even to if you should shave your beard. In the states, to what I’m aware of, astrology is rarely talked about. I don’t meet people and discuss astrology with anyone I know of, new acquaintances or long time friends alike. In Rio, from what I experienced (the small group of people I met) all talked about astrology regularly. Then from the doctors waiting office, the bus TV screens, and metro screens, all had daily astrology updates for each sign. I’m not sure why that is. I found it culturally relevant, because its broadcast on all TV screens in public and private sectors.

So whats up with this astrological phenomenon? I’m unsure if the people really look to the stars for guidance on daily and monthly decisions to be aware of potential decision making, or if its just a way to frame people and conversation in a fun mystical way. Maybe it gives life that mysterious element and possibility of whats to come in the future and how to deal with the unknown. It could be a way to casually create conversation with people while commuting to and from places. I mentioned this question to the people I was with, they didn’t have a solid concrete answer to it either. They just were interesting in reading and discussing it. One of my friends brought up a website that she regularly used and I read mine for the month of February, it said I shouldn’t make any major facial feature changes, ie, shaving off my beard, drastic hairstyle change, change in skin care, and even that I might be engaged on Valentines Day (Feb. 14 is Valentines day for the United States, not Brazil).

I’m not engaged, but I think I’ll keep the trimmed beard for the spring and summer months.
